424 Police officers graduated on the 28th of August 2008 in Camp Dublin, Baghdad. It is the 5th course of Iraqi Police Officers trained by Italian Carabinieri.
The graduates brings the number of Carabinieri trained Police Officers in Iraq up to 2013 since the start of their training under supervision of the NATO Training Mission in Iraq (NTM-I) in 2007.
The Gendarmerie type training takes eight weeks and it includes various police skill training such as law enforcement, counter insurgency operations, riot control and VIP protection. The training is conducted in school scenarios, which are planned and arranged as realistically as possible in order to reflect the work awaiting the students after the eight weeks training and education. NTM-I was established in 2004. NTM-I was founded to assist the Iraqis in establishing an effective and enduring security sector. This has mainly been done through three means: by Training, Advising and Mentoring in-country, by organising out-of-country training at NATO establishments in various countries and by coordinating equipment donations.
