Well, this is it: the first post. Welcome to the official blog site of Allied Command Operations. We’re one of NATO’s two strategic military commands and we’re responsible for planning and directing all of NATO’s military operations. You may know us as SHAPE: Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe. But that’s just the name of the headquarters. The Command is far bigger than the building in Belgium.
We decided to start this blog to reach another community that we haven’t really engaged yet: the bloggers in the blogosphere. The aim is to connect you with facts and figures about our military operations and link you to other information that you might find useful.
We named the blog ‘ACO SitRep’ to reinforce the military operations focus of the content. A ‘SitRep’ is a ‘situation report’ in mil speak. When something happens in a theatre of operations, the theatre sends a SitRep to its higher headquarters to inform them of latest developments. So SitRep seemed an appropriate name for our blog.
We hope you find the information useful. For more information about NATO’s military operations, check out our website at www.nato.int/shape.
Enjoy!
